Welcome to the Digital Knowledge Resource Portal of D.A.V Unit 8, Bhubaneswar.

One book, one child, and one teacher can change the world. Hence, the birth of this very concept. With the ongoing “Digital India Campaign”, we have been trying to improve the infrastructure of the institution electronically and making our students digitally empowered with the support of technology. In our maiden venture to make every piece of information digitally available to our students, the concept of DKRP is a noble attempt. In the present scenario, when there is a continuous decline in the reading habit of the students, the school tries hard to provide access to the students to a wide range of reading materials at their fingertips, from their individual comfort zones.

“There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live” – John Adams.

I am quite confident that this very attempt at our end will not only enrich the wisdom of our students but also enable them to live and make a living.

SCHOOL LIBRARY (PORTALS OF KNOWLEDGE)

“I never feel lonely if I’ve got a book – they’re like old friends. Even if you’re not reading them over and over again, you know they are there. And they’re part of your history. They sort of tell a story about your journey through life.” – Emilia Fox
The library is a necessity. A Library is a hub for increased student achievement. A school library serves as the center and coordinating agency for all material used in the school.” Like one needs oxygen to live, a library is a real framework of life. The beautifully arranged books on the shelves just invite readers to make their pick…almost making Alice through the looking glass true…so true. Just turn the pages of wonder and you are just lost for several hours. You are lost…lost in the realms of imagination. Through the pastures…to the music of folk songs of Kabi Guru…Rabindranath…riding on the besom of Harry Potter or traveling Round ‘The World.’…Your chance to meet Bathsheba Everdene or you are with Tom Sawyer planning to play ‘hooky’.
The books picked up for reading must be placed back again…a misplaced book is as good as being lost. Now how do you mark the pages after you have read…Do you fold the edges of the pages….? Oh No! That’s wrong and really a mean thing to do. Prepare bookmarks from old calendars or price tags…or buy the beautiful ones available in the shops…Now marking the book with a pen or a pencil…is a complete no, no. The pages would be completely blemished, and the next reader probably would find it difficult to read.
Each book here is for KEEPS. We must preserve these books for our posterity, moreover wise as you are you know that paper is dear…All of us know that the years of an institute’s progress or a school are gauged by the number of books in the library. The school library is a gift for us. Let us unwrap the wonders of joy each time when we open the pages of a book. A personal library is everybody’s forte. Do you have one? Take shots and upload them on the library blog. Give your own caption…in any one of the languages taught at school.
Let us take an oath to prove Macaulay’s infamous minute in 1835 wrong “…a single shelf of a good European Library was worth the whole native literature of India and Arabia”. We need to preserve our literature and hold it out to innumerable readers, whatever we hold dear to our hearts exists…in this wonderful magic of books. Waiting for an inquisitive mind and a tender hand to turn the pages…
“In order to live read
Reading helps you to live
So many lives at the same time.”
